MAHA’s foundation donates 25,500 euros to a charitable organisation for the construction of a climbing wall in the disability-friendly Allgäu ART Hotel in Kempten. The private charitable foundation of Winfried Rauch – the founder of MAHA who passed away in 2016 – has been advocating for people who find themselves in an emergency situation through no fault of their own for many years.
Haldenwang, 13 November 2017. The disabled persons’ society ‘Verein für Körperbehinderte Allgäu’ has been committed to helping people with disabilities for almost 60 years, and supports them with a great range of measures. In recent years, for instance, it cooperated with several Allgäu integration enterprises to create around 40 full-time jobs subject to social security contributions in retail and hospitality for people with physical handicaps together. This enables them to live independently from state support, and become a completely natural part of our society.
As part of a project realised recently, a climbing wall was installed in the Allgäu ART Hotel which creates further support opportunities for disabled persons. This includes special therapies for people who suffered a stroke or craniocerebral injury, as well as children and juveniles with severe disabilities, which are designed to boost their confidence while enhancing coordination and social skills. The Allgäu ART Hotel in Kempten is completely free of barriers, offering both guests and employees a disability-friendly environment. Hotel guests range from groups from institutions for people with disabilities through families with disabled family members to individual travellers.
The climbing wall installed here is primarily intended for intensive outpatient therapy weeks. New possibilities are expected especially for people with neurological damage, enhancing their motor skills, cognitive development and motivation. Open disability work is offered in addition to mobile services for people with disabilities. Disabled members of the living units and supported living facilities of the disabled persons’ society ‘Verein für Körperbehinderte Allgäu’ can enjoy a new leisure offer in the climbing hall in supervised climbing groups. Further plans include the boarding school and short-term care facilities, as well as students of the Astrid Lindgren House using the climbing wall in the Allgäu ART Hotel for recreational activities and therapeutic purposes.
“We are delighted that our donation made an important contribution to this amazing project in our region,” says Anton Klotz, District Administrator and Chair of the Foundation Board when handing over the donation. “By doing so, we are providing the individuals supported by the society and the hotel guests new opportunities for advancement and totally new prospects.”
